Akashiumi Hideaki - 明石海 秀昭 (born February 6, 1940) is a former Japanese professional sumo wrestler from Akashi, Hyogo. He made his debut in May 1956 and last wrestled for Dewanoumi stable. He reached the juryo division in May 1962. His highest rank was juryo 11 and he retired in January 1967.

Career[]

Born in Akashi, Hyogo, Fujimoto joined Dewanoumi stable and made his professional debut in May 1956. Initially wrestling under his surname, he was later given the shikona "Akashiumi" (明石海) in May 1957. In July 1958 he won the sandanme yusho with a perfect 8-0 record and was promoted to makushita in September 1958. He was promoted to juryo in May 1962, but struggled and could only last four tournaments. He retired from sumo in January 1967.

Fighting Style[]

Akashiumi was a yotsu-sumo wrestler who prefers grappling to pushing and thrusting techniques. He favored a hidari-yotsu (right hand outside, left hand inside) position when gripping his opponent's mawashi (belt). His most common kimarite was yorikiri, or force out. He was also fond of employing uwatenage, or overarm throw.
