Akihikari Noriaki - 昭光 徳昭 (born August 1, 1941) is a former Japanese professional sumo wrestler from Ariake, Kumamoto. He made his debut in January 1957 and last wrestled for Dewanoumi stable. He reached the juryo division in March 1964. His highest rank was juryo 3 and he retired in May 1967.
Career[]
Born in Ariake, Kumamoto, Goshima joined Dewanoumi stable and made his professional debut in January 1957 under the shikona "Akihikari" (昭光). He was promoted to sandanme in September 1959 and makushita in July 1960. In January 1964, he produced a 5-2 record at the rank of makushita 2 and was promoted to juryo for the March 1964 tournament. Akihikari was ranked in juryo for a total of 12 tournaments and rose as high as juryo 3 in May 1965. He fell back down to makushita in May 1966 and retired from sumo a year later in May 1967.
Fighting Style[]
Akihikari was a yotsu-sumo wrestler who prefers grappling to pushing and thrusting techniques. He favored a hidari-yotsu (right hand outside, left hand inside) position when gripping his opponent's mawashi (belt). His most common kimarite was yorikiri, or force out.
