Amanakiyama Junichi - 天鳴山 淳一 (born June 18, 1951) is a former Japanese professional sumo wrestler from Yaku, Kagoshima. He made his debut in July 1970 and wrestled for Futagoyama stable. His highest rank was makushita 44 and his last tournament was in September 1975.

Early Life[]

Junji Iwakawa was born in the town of Yaku located on Yaku Island in Kagoshima prefecture. He attended Senshu University where he was a member of the school's sumo club. He later dropped out of school and joined Futagoyama stable.

Career[]

He made his professional debut in July 1970 and won the jonokuchi yusho with a perfect 7-0 record in the following September 1970 tournament. He was promoted to sandanme in January 1971 and was given the shikona "Amanakiyama" (天鳴山). He reached the makushita division in July 1972, but was unable to make a significant progress in the division with his highest rank being makushita 44. In January 1974, he finished with a strong 6-1 record and was placed in a 10-man playoff for the sandanme yusho, however, he missed out on the championship. He sat out of the January 1975 tournament and the following four tournaments which caused him to fell off the banzuke after the September 1975 tournament. He never returned to maezumo or any of the lower divisions which makes it unclear when he officially retired.
