He attended Shonan High School where he was a member of the school's sumo club.[1] After high school, he enrolled at Senshu University's School of Law and was a member of the sumo club as well.[2] He later dropped out midway to join Matsugane stable (later renamed Nishonoseki stable in 2014 and Hanaregoma stable in 2021).[3]

Career[]

He made his professional debut in March 2009 and wrestled under his surname "Arikawa" (有川). He finished with a strong 6-1 record in his first tournament and followed with a 5-2 record in July 2009. However, he soon began to struggle and he did not reach sandanme until November 2010. His most common kimarite was yorikiri (force out) followed by tsukitoshi (thrust down) and uwatenage (overarm throw).
