Asakoki Yuki - 朝興貴 祐貴 (born December 19, 1990) is a Japanese professional sumo wrestler from Takasago, Hyogo. He made his debut in March 2009 and currently wrestles for Takasago stable. His highest rank as of 2025 is makushita 11.

Early Life[]

Yuki Kubota began practicing judo during his time at Takasago Shiritsu Tatsuyama Junior High School. He later attended Kokoku High School in Osaka, where he won second place for a judo tournament held in Osaka. After graduation, Kubota aspired to become a sumo wrestler and joined Takasago stable with the help of the president of the supermarket chain Konomiya.[1]

Career[]

He made his professional debut in March 2009 and was given the shikona "Asakoki" (朝興貴). Due to his little sumo experience, Asakoki initially struggled and fell back down to jonokuchi on many occasions. He eventually reached sandanme in November 2011. In September 2012, he suffered an ankle injury and was demoted back down to jonidan. He won the jonidan yusho with a perfect 7-0 record in November 2012.

He fell back down to jonidan in January 2014, but won all seven of his matches, however, he missed out on the championship after losing a playoff to Kotonisei. Nevertheless, Asakoki posted a string of strong results and was promoted to makushita in September 2014. Asakoki would spend his majority of his career in makushita with brief spells in sandanme. He won his first sandanme yusho in July 2016 and his second in September 2018. He was promoted to a career-best makushita 11 in November 2018 but could only manage a 2-5 record in that tournament.[2]
