Asatenmai Matazo - 朝天舞 又三 (born May 23, 1981) is a Japanese professional sumo wrestler from Ishinomaki, Miyagi. He made his debut in March 2000 and currently wrestles for Takasago stable. His highest rank as of 2025 is makushita 8.
Career[]
After graduating from Miyagi Prefecutural Ishinomaki Nishi High School[1], Hanada joined Wakamatsu stable (later merged with Takasago stable) and made his professional debut in March 2000 under the ring name, or shikona, "Asahanada" (朝花田).
He served as the tsukebito, or personal servant to Yokozuna Asashoryu, which saw limited training time for him. Due to this, it took him seven years to reach the makushita division.[2]
He was given the new shikona "Asadoryu" (朝道龍) in January 2007 and was promoted to makushita for the following March 2007 tournament. However, Asadoryu was unable to establish himself in the division and was given the new shikona "Asanawa" (朝縄) in March 2009. The shikona change still resulted in no positive progress, so in January 2011 he was given the new shikona of "Asatenmai" (朝天舞). As a result he was re-promoted back to makushita in May 2011 and he was able to establish himself as a makushita regular. He was promoted to a career-best makushita 8 in September 2013 where he could only manage a 2-5 record.
He had to withdraw from the first time in his career in March 2014 due to a retinal detachment. In July 2019, at the age of 38, he won all seven matches of his matches in sandanme, but missed out on the yusho after losing to his stablemate Terasawa.[3]
Fighting Style[]

Asatenmai defeats Oginosho by oshidashi (push out)
Asatenmai is an oshi-sumo wrestler who prefers pushing and thrusting techniques to fighting on the mawashi. His most common kimarite used is a straightforward oshidashi, or push out. Nevertheless, he has won with many rare techniques in his career such as ipponzeoi (one arm shoulder throw) and izori (backwards body drop), which he employed on multiple occasions.[4]
