Atsuminada Masayuki - 渥美洋 正征 (born December 25, 1945) is a former Japanese professional sumo wrestler from Atsumi, Aichi. He made his debut in May 1961 and last wrestled for Isegahama stable. He reached the juryo division in July 1971. His highest rank was juryo 12 and he retired in January 1974.
Career[]
He made his professional debut in May 1961, wrestling for Isegahama stable. He initially wrestled under his surname and was promoted to sandanme in January 1963 and makushita in September 1964. In September 1966, he changed his shikona to "Atsuminada" (渥美洋) which was derived from his hometown of Atsumi in Aichi Prefecture. In March 1971, he produced a 7-0 record and won the makushita yusho and was promoted to the top of makushita where he finished with a 5-2 record to earn a promotion to the salaried juryo division in July 1971.
In his first tournament as a sekitori, Atsuminada finished with a 5-10 record and was demoted back down to makushita. He returned to juryo in March 1972 and was on the verge of producing a winning record, however, he lost his final match against Oshio to finish with a 7-8 record ad was subsequently demoted back down to makushita since he was ranked at the bottom of juryo. He announced his retirement after the January 1974 tournament due to an inevitable fall to sandanme.
Fighting Style[]
Atsuminada was proficient in both yotsu-sumo (grappling) and oshi-sumo (pushing and thrusting) techniques. His favored grip on his opponent's mawashi was migi-yotsu, a left hand outside, right hand inside position. His most often used winning kimarite was hatakikomi (slap out), followed by hikiotoshi (pull out).
