Ayanoumi Kintaro - 綾の海 金太郎 (born August 17, 1955) is a former Japanese professional sumo wrestler from Inagaki, Aomori. He made his debut in September 1973 and last wrestled for Taiho stable. He reached the juryo division in July 1980. His highest rank was juryo 13 and he retired in May 1981.
Early Life[]
Kurotaki began sumo wrestling in elementary school and played an important role during the Aomori prefectural tournament. From then, he aspired to become a professional sumo wrestler. He later dropped out of high school and moved to Tokyo without the permission of his family. After working part-time at a sushi restaurant, he was introduced to Taiho stable by a restaurant customer.
Career[]
He made his professional debut in September 1973 and won the jonokuchi yusho with a perfect 7-0 record in the following November tournament. He was promoted to sandanme in July 1974 and makushita in May 1975. He changed his shikona to "Ayanoumi" (綾の海) in March 1979 and was promoted to juryo in July 1980. In his juryo debut, Ayanoumi finished with a 5-10 record and was demoted back down to makushita. This proved to be his only tournament ranked as a sekitori.
Retirement from Sumo[]
Ayanoumi remained in makushita for another year before announcing his retirement after the May 1981 tournament. After retiring, he opened up a sushi restaurant called "Sushi Ayanoumi" in Monzen-nakacho, Koto-ku, Tokyo.
Fighting Style[]
Ayanoumi was a yotsu-sumo wrestler who prefers grappling to pushing and thrusting techniques. His favorite techniques were hidari-yotsu (right hand outside, left hand inside grip), yori (forcing), and shitatenage (underarm throw).
