Azumao Maikeru - 東煌 舞草留 (born March 19, 1996) is a former Japanese professional sumo wrestler from Kanazawa, Ishikawa. He made his debut in May 2011 and wrestled for Tamanoi stable. His highest rank was jonokuchi 15 and he retired in September 2011.

Early Life[]

Michael Hanamure was born on March 19, 1996, in Kanazawa, Ishikawa, to a Japanese father and a Filipino mother. In early March of 2011, he joined Tamanoi stable at the age of 14 becoming the youngest of all the new recruits. He stated that he wanted to "help clean up sumo" and reach the rank of yokozuna by the time he is 21 or 22 years old. Standing at 1.86 m (6 ft 1 in) and weighing 124 kg (273 lb), Hanamure was already bigger than most of the other recruits.

Career[]

Hanamure's debut was delayed from March 2011 to May 2011 due to the 2011 match-fixing scandal. He was given the shikona "Azumao" (東煌). He was not the first wrestler to use the shikona "Azumao" as the Brazilian Yasuhito Marcio Morita used the shikona, but with a different spelling. Azumao had a mediocre performance in maezumo, only scoring two wins out of five matches. He missed the following July 2011 tournament and retired from sumo in September 2011 after falling off the banzuke. He did not compete in any official matches.

Fighting Style[]
