Career[]
Born in Itayanagi, Aomori, Mito joined Dewanoumi stable and made his professional debut in May 1953. He was given the shikona "Banryunada" (幡龍洋) which is derived from a bridge in his hometown. He was promoted to sandanme in January 1955 and makushita in January 1956. In May 1959, he won the makushita yusho after winning a six-man playoff. He briefly fell back down to sandanme in 1962 but won the yusho with a perfect 7-0 record. He was promoted to juryo in November 1963, but could only last two tournaments. He retired from sumo in May 1965.
Fighting Style[]
Banryunada was a yotsu-sumo wrestler who prefers grappling to pushing and thrusting techniques. He favored a hidari-yotsu (right hand outside, left hand inside) position when gripping his opponent's mawashi (belt). His most common kimarite was yorikiri, or force out.
