Early Career[]

Genji Sakamoto joined Dewanoumi stable and made his professional debut in January 1927 wrestling under his family name. Sakamoto reached the elite juryo division in May 1932 and was given the new shikona "Bochozan" (防長山). He initially struggled in juryo and was demoted back down to makushita in May 1933. He returned to juryo in January 1934 and was promoted to makuuchi in May 1935.

Makuuchi Career[]

Bochozan was ranked in the top division for a total of 5 tournaments, reaching as high as maegashira 11 in May 1935. He was never able to establish himself as a makuuchi regular and only managed one winning record during his time in the top division. Bochozan retired from sumo in May 1938 after finishing with a poor 3-10 record.

Fighting Style[]

Bochozan was a yotsu-sumo wrestler who prefers grappling to pushing and thrusting techniques. His most common kimarite were shitatenage (underarm throw) and tsuridashi (lift out).
