Career[]
After graduating from Nanao Shinonome High School, Kinoshita was recruited into Kasugano stable by Chiganoura Oyakata (former sekiwake Masudayama) and made his professional debut in March 2001. He reached the jonidan division in September 2001, but could not break through the jonidan wall. In May 2003, he was given the shikona "Tochinonami" (栃ノ波). Upon transferring to the recently established Chiganoura stable in September 2004, he changed his shikona to "Onami" (大浪).
He reached the sandanme division in July 2005, but was unable to establish himself in the division. After changing his shikona to "Notononami" (能登ノ波) in March 2006, he was able to become a mainstay in sandanme. In May 2010, he changed his shikona for the fifth time, this time to "Burinosato" (鰤の里). He reached a career-best rank of sandanme 4 in November 2011, but was unable to capitalize on a promotion to makushita.
Retirement from Sumo[]
Burinosato retired from sumo in March 2019. After retiring, he works as a nursing assistant in Kurume, Fukuoka.
Fighting Style[]

Burinosato defeats Ebisumaru by oshidashi (push out)
Burinosato was an oshi-sumo wrestler who prefers pushing and thrusting techniques to fighting on the mawashi. However, his most common kimarite was yorikiri (force out), followed by oshidashi (push out).
