Retirement from Sumo[]

Chiyohakuryu announced his intention to retire in March 2011. His danpatsu-shiki, or retirement ceremony, was held on March 21st, 2011. Due to the cancellation of the March 2011 tournament due to a major match-fixing scandal, his retirement was officially announced after the May 2011 tournament.

He currently lives in Osaka, Japan, and works as an acupuncturist. After retirement, he also gained an interest for fitness and lost around 40 kg (88 Ib).
