Chiyosakae Eita - 千代栄 栄太 (born July 12, 1990) is a Japanese professional sumo wrestler from Fukuchiyama, Kyoto. He made his debut in January 2009 and currently wrestles for Kokonoe stable. He reached the juryo division in July 2022. His highest rank as of 2025 is juryo 8.
Early Life[]
Eita Kishi was born in the town of Kasuga in Hyogo prefecture. Kishi began practicing judo at the age of 3 and attended judo classes while in elementary school. During his fifth year of elementary school, Kishi began attending judo classes in Fukuchiyama, Kyoto, and would use this as his official birthplace when joining professional sumo.[1]
He attended Sanda Municipal Ai Junior High School in Sanda, Hyogo, before transferring to Fukuchiyama Municipal Nisshin Junior High School in Kyoto during his second year. During his time in school, Kishi won many prefectural judo tournaments.[1] After graduating from Kyoto Kyoei Gakuen High School, the director of Kishi's high school judo club recommended that he join professional sumo since he was a fan of ozeki Chiyotaikai. Kishi agreed and subsequently joined Kokonoe stable.[2]
Career[]
Early Career[]
He made his professional debut in January 2009 and initially wrestled under his surname Kishi. Upon promotion to sandanme in May 2010 he was given the shikona "Chiyosakae" (千代栄). He was promoted to makushita in July 2012 where he would remain for the following ten years. In May 2021, Chiyosakae reached a career-best rank of makushita 6, however, he finished with a 1-6 record. Highly demoralized, Chiyosakae followed with a 2-5 record and was considering retirement as he was already in his 30s at the time.[3] Nevertheless, he decided to persevere and was promoted to makushita 3 in May 2022. In this tournament, he defeated juryo-ranked wrestler Takakento on the final day to finish with a 5-2 record and ensured promotion to juryo.[4]
Juryo Career[]
At the time of his juryo promotion, Chiyosakae was 31 years and 11 months old, making him the fourth oldest wrestler to earn a juryo promotion during the post-WWII era. He was also the first sekitori from Kyoto since Oikari in 1997.[3] He finished with a solid 9-6 record in his juryo debut. After four tournaments in juryo, Chiyosakae was demoted back down to makushita in March 2023, but he immediately returned back to juryo for the following May 2023 tournament. On the fourth day of the September 2024 tournament, Chiyosakae withdrew due to a tear in his right bicep and left tricep.[5] Having recorded no wins at the time of his withdrawal, Chiyosakae was demoted back down to makushita for the November 2024 tournament.[4]
Fighting Style[]
