Daiden Hidetake - 大殿 英武 (born September 8, 1970) is a former Japanese professional sumo wrestler from Aomori City, Aomori. He made his debut in September 1986 and wrestled for Taiho stable. He reached the juryo division in March 1994. His highest rank was juryo 13 and he retired in May 2001.
Early Life[]
In junior high school, Ito belonged to the judo club and took part in national competitions. After graduation he tried to join sumo, but did not meet height requirements so he continued to attend high school. However, Taiho oyakata told him to come back once he grew taller. Ito later joined the stable after meeting height requirements and he made his professional debut in September 1986.
Career[]
He initially wrestled under his surname "Ito" (伊藤) before changing it to "Hogan" (砲岩) in July 1988. He produced a perfect 7-0 record in the September 1988 tournament, but missed out on the jonidan yusho after losing the playoff to Toyonofuji. Nevertheless, he was promoted to sandanme in the following November 1988 tournament and makushita in January 1991. He changed his shikona to "Daiden" (大殿) in July 1992.
After five consecutive winning records, Daiden was promoted to juryo in March 1994. Daiden could only manage five wins in his lone sekitori tournament and he was demoted back down to makushita in May 1994.
Daiden remained in makushita for majority of his later career. He suffered multiple retinal detachments, lower back pain, and gout. Because of this, he eventually fell down to sandanme by May 2000 and he announced his retirement a year later in may 2001.
Personal Life[]
- Daiden was an excellent student with strong academic performances. When he dropped out of high school to join Taiho stable, his high school exempted him from any tuition fees.
- Daiden previously wrestled under the shikona "Hogan" (砲岩) from 1988 to 1992. The shikona was derived from American professional wrestler Hulk Hogan because Daiden was a big fan of professional wrestling.
- Daiden's hobby is listening to music.
Fighting Style[]
Masutsuyoshi was a yotsu-sumo wrestler who prefers grappling to pushing and thrusting techniques. He favored a hidari-yotsu (right hand outside, left hand inside) position when gripping his opponent's mawashi (belt). His favorite kimarite was shitatenage (underarm throw), but his most common kimarite was yorikiri, or force out.
