Daimasakari Ayato - 大斧亜矢翔 (born May 1, 2005) is a Japanese professional sumo wrestler from Iruma, Saitama. He made his debut in January 2024 and currently wrestles for Oitekaze stable. His highest rank as of 2025 is makushita 22.

Early Life[]

Ayato Onozawa was born on May 1, 2005, in Iruma, Saitama. He began sumo wrestling during his second year of elementary school at a local sumo club in Iruma. During his third year at Iruma Shiritsu Kurosu Junior High School, Onozawa made it to the Top 32 at the National Junior High School Championships. In addition, he won the team competition with his school at the National Junior Sumo Championships two years in a row, during his third and fourth year.^[1]

He went on to attend Saitama Sakae High School, renowned for its strong sumo program. During his third year, he won the +100 kg weight class at the Kanto Tournament and made it to the Top 16 at the National Sports Festival. After graduating high school, he joined Oitekaze stable.^[1]

Career[]

Onozawa made his professional debut in January 2024 and finished with a 5-2 record in his first professional tournament. In May 2024, he was given the shikona "Daimasakari" (大斧). He consistently posted strong records until the November 2024 tournament where he finished with a 3-4 record, his first career make-koshi, or losing record. In response, Daimasakari finished with a perfect 7-0 record in the following January 2025 tournament to claim the sandanme yusho. He was subsequently promoted to the makushita division for the following March 2025 tournament.^[2]

Fighting Style[]

Daimasakari is an oshi-sumo wrestler who prefers pushing and thrusting techniques to fighting on the mawashi. His most common kimarite used is a straightforward oshidashi (push out).^[3]
