Dairinzan Rin - 大凜山稟 (born September 17, 2003) is a Japanese professional sumo wrestler from Kitanagoya, Aichi. He made his debut in March 2022 and currently wrestles for Arashio stable. His highest rank as of 2025 is makushita 55.

Early Life[]

Rin Maruyama was born on September 17, 2003, in Kitanagoya, Aichi. He attended Aichi Prefectural Ichinomiya High School where studied civil engineering and he had ambitions of becoming a construction manager. He was also a member of the school's rugby team, playing as a prop. Despite receiving offers from universities to continue playing rugby, he decided to try out sumo despite no prior experience. His high school teacher, along with an acquaintance, reached out to Arashio stable, which was based in Ichinomiya at the time, and after visiting the stable, he decided to join immediately.^[1]

Career[]

He made his professional debut in March 2022 and was given the shikona "Dairinzan" (大凜山). He struggled in his first year of sumo, finishing with a 3-4 record in his first jonokuchi tournament as well as a poor 1-6 record in November 2022. After a slow start to his career, Dairinzan bounced back by winning all seven of his matches in November 2023 and was placed in a playoff against Shiroma for the jonidan yusho. Shiroma, a Nihon University graduate who had not yet lost a professional bout, was the favorite to win, however, Dairinzan overpowered him and won with a strong push out win to claim the jonidan yusho.^[2]

He was promoted to sandanme for the following January 2024 tournament. After a steady and consistent showing in sandanme, Dairinzan was promoted to makushita in March 2025.^[3]

Fighting Style[]

Dairinzan is an oshi-sumo wrestler who prefers pushing and thrusting techniques to fighting on the mawashi. His most common kimarite used is a straightforward oshidashi (push out).^[4]
