Daishinkai Kenta - 大新海 健太 (born April 15, 2000) is a Japanese professional sumo wrestler from Itoigawa, Niigata. He made his debut in March 2019 and currently wrestles for Otake stable. His highest rank as of 2025 is makushita 44.

Early Life[]

Oba was born on April 25, 2000, in Itoigawa, Niigata, to a Japanese father and a Filipino mother.[1] He began sumo in junior high school after the recommendation of his father who was a big sumo fan. He went on to attend Niigata Prefectural Kaiyo High School, which had a strong sumo program, and he participated well on the national scene. After graduating high school, he was recruited into Otake stable.[1]

Career[]

Oba made his professional debut in March 2019 and reached sandanme by his fourth professional tournament in November 2019. However, Oba has struggled to break into the makushita division with his highest rank being sandanme 4 which he earned in January 2022. In November 2023, he was given the shikona "Daishinkai" (大新海).[2]

Daishinkai is an oshi-sumo wrestler who prefers pushing and thrusting techniques to fighting on the mawashi. His most common kimarite used is a straightforward oshidashi, or push out.[3]
