Daishoumi Tomoki - 大翔湖 友樹 (born April 21, 1984) is a former Japanese professional sumo wrestler from Koto, Tokyo. He made his debut in March 2007 and wrestled for Oitekaze stable. He reached the juryo division in November 2008. His highest rank was juryo 10 and he retired in November 2011.
Early Life[]

Mori as a college yokozuna (c. 2006)
Tomoki Mori was born on April 21, 1984, in Koto, Tokyo. Mori was a sumo prodigy from an early age and won the National Wanpaku Sumo Tournament twice, during his fourth year of elementary school in 1994 and sixth year of elementary school in 1996.
For high school he went to study at Tottori Johoku High School where he was also a member of the school's strong sumo club. After graduation he enrolled at Nihon University's Department of Economics. He participated in collegiate sumo and in his fourth year he won the National Student Sumo Championship which crowned him as student yokozuna and granted him makushita tsukedashi status. He joined Oitekaze stable in March 2007 after graduating from college.
Career[]
Early Career[]
Mori started at the rank of makushita 15 instead of maezumo due to his amateur accomplishments. He produced a poor 2-5 record which was one of the worst results for former student yokozuna. He bounced back with three winning records which brought him back to the "promotion-zone" of makushita. In May 2008, Mori posted a 5-2 record at the rank of makushita 4 and was promoted to the top of makushita for the following tournament. In this tournament, he could only manage three wins due to an injury he suffered on his left arm during match against Asofuji on the second day. Nevertheless, he produced a 4-3 record in the following tournament and was promoted to juryo in November 2008.
Juryo Career[]
Upon promotion to juryo, he changed his shikona from his family name to "Daishoumi" (大翔湖). He posted a strong 9-6 record in his first tournament and was promoted to a career-best juryo 10 in January 2009. In this tournament he lost to Wakakoyu on the final day to finish with a 7-8 record. He returned back to the rank of juryo 10 for two separate occasions but could not achieve meaningful results at this rank. In November 2009, Daishoumi produced a poor 4-11 record which resulted in a fall back to makushita.
Later Career[]
Daishoumi wrestled mainly in the upper-levels of makushita, but he struggled to contend for a juryo promotion. After pulling out of the May 2001 tournament he fell back down to sandanme for the first time in his career. He returned to makushita immediately after producing a 6-1 record.
Retirement from Sumo[]
Daishoumi handed in his retirement papers on October 28th, 2011, prior to the upcoming November 2011 tournament. He cited that his sumo deteriorated due to an elbow injury he suffered. After retirement, he opened up an internet cafe.
Fighting Style[]

Daishoumi defeats Jumonji by oshidashi (force out)
Daishoumi was a yotsu-sumo wrestler who prefers grappling to pushing and thrusting techniques. Daishoumi's grip is unusual in that he prefers a maemitsu grip on his opponent's mawashi or belt – grabbing the front part directly. His most common kimarite is yorikiri (force out), followed closely by oshidashi (push out).
