Daishoyu Maabin - 大翔勇 真亜敏 (born April 10, 1987) is a former Japanese professional sumo wrestler from Arakawa, Tokyo. He made his debut in January 2006 and wrestled for Oitekaze stable. His highest rank was makushita 18 and he retired in September 2008.
Early Life[]
Marvin Lee Sano Jr. was born on April 10, 1987, in Arakawa, Tokyo, to an African American father and a Japanese mother. His father, Marvin Dangerfield, is a former marine from New Orleans, Louisiana, who works as a DJ for a Japanese radio station. His mother is Japanese and he holds Japanese citizenship.
Sano became interested in sumo through his maternal grandfather. When he was seven years old, he joined a sumo club in Bunkyo, Tokyo. He went on to attend Saitama Sakae High School where he was a member of the school's strong sumo club. He was also close friends with future ozeki Goeido. During his time as Saitama Sakae, Sano won back-to-back Inter-High School team championships. After graduating high school, he joined Oitekaze stable.
Career[]

He made his professional debut in January 2006 under the shikona "Daishoyu" (大翔勇). In his first tournament, he finished with a strong 6-1 record, with his only lost coming against Takunishiki. In the following May 2006 tournament, he finished with a perfect 7-0 record, but missed out on the jonidan yusho after losing to Yamasaki in a playoff. He was promoted to sandanme for the July 2006 tournament, but he missed the tournament which resulted in him falling back down to jonidan. Nevertheless, he posted a 6-1 record in September 2006 and was promoted back to sandanme for the November 2006 tournament.
In the November 2006 tournament, Daishoyu finished with a perfect 7-0 record, but missed out on the sandanme yusho after losing to Tokusegawa in the playoff. Nevertheless, he was promoted to makushita for the following January 2007 tournament. In his makushita debut, Daishoyu finished with solid 5-2 record and he reached a career-best makushita 18 in May 2007. However, his sumo progression stalled and he remained in the mid-level makushita for the majority of his later career.
Retirement from Sumo[]
Daishoyu retired from sumo in September 2008, after only two years in sumo, due to heart disease. His close friend Goeido stated that if he had remained in sumo a little longer, he would have definitely made the san'yaku ranks. Daishoyu had always aspired to become an entertainer so after retiring, he attended Watanabe Comedy School. After graduating, he has since become a comedian under the name "Marvin Jr." (マービンJr.).

Daishoyu was a yotsu-sumo wrestler who prefers grappling to pushing and thrusting techniques. His most common kimarite was yorikiri, or force out. He was also fond of employing dashinage, or pulling throwing techniques.
