Dewanoryu Kazuki - 出羽ノ龍 和希 (born March 7, 2001) is a Mongolian professional sumo wrestler from Ulaanbaatar. He made his debut in September 2019 and currently wrestles for Dewanoumi stable. His highest rank as of 2025 is makushita 2.
Early Life[]
Temuulen Tumurbaatar was born on March 7, 2001, in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. Admiring the spirited sumo of wrestlers like Asashoryu and Harumafuji[1], he began sumo wrestling in elementary school.[2] At the age of eight, he trained under former sandanme wrestler Kitakasuga and won the team championship at the Asashoryu Cup. In junior high school, he trained under former makushita wrestler Maenoyu and experienced a team victory at the Hakuho Cup. In addition to sumo, he also played basketball.[3]
With the aspirations of becoming a professional sumo wrestler, Tumurbaatar travelled to Japan to attend Kibogaoka Senior High School.[2] Tumurbaatar was a member of the school's sumo club participated in many national tournaments during high school where he produced satisfactory results. He also represented Mongolia in the 2018 World Sumo Championships. Upon graduation from high school, he joined the prestigious Dewanoumi stable.[3]
Career[]
He made his professional debut in September 2019 under the shikona "Dewanoryu" (出羽ノ龍). In his first official tournament, Dewanoryu produced a strong 6-1 record and was immediately promoted to the jonidan division for the following March 2020 tournament. In his jonidan debut, he won all seven matches and took the yusho. As a result, he was promoted to sandanme in July 2020. Dewanoryu gradually rose through the sandanme ranks and after three tournaments, he was promoted to makushita in January 2021.
In his makushita debut, Dewanoryu struggled and produced a lackluster 3-4 record. As a result, he fell back down to sandanme in March 2021. He returned to makushita in May 2021, where he was in the yusho race for majority of the tournament, before losing to former komusubi Abi. He reached as high as makushita 3 in March 2022, but sat out of the tournament which resulted in a fall back to lower makushita. He had to withdraw from Day 7 of the July 2022 tournament after another COVID outbreak at Dewanoumi stable.[4]
Personal Life[]
- Before studying abroad at a Japanese high school, he attended a Japanese language school in Ulaanbaatar. As a result, when he was featured in the magazine Sumo in March 2020 during his jonidan days, he was praised for having a rich vocabulary and speaking Japanese fluently.[1]
- According to his stable's website, Dewanoryu's favorite food is Mongolian cuisine, his favorite basketball player is LeBron James, and his favorite brook is I Want to Eat Your Pancreas.[5]

Dewanoryu is proficient in both yotsu-sumo (grappling) and oshi-sumo (pushing and thrusting) techniques. His most common techniques are yorikiri (force out), oshidashi (push out), and yoritaoshi (frontal crush down).[6]
