Fujinosato Noboru - 富士の里 昇 (born October 23, 1959) is a former Japanese professional sumo wrestler from Imakane, Hokkaido. He made his debut in November 1975 and last wrestled for Kokonoe stable. He reached the juryo division in May 1984. His highest rank was juryo 13 and he retired in March 1986.

Career[]

After reaching high school, Taki already stood over 1.80 m (5 ft 11 in) and was recruited by Kokonoe oyakata (the 41st yokozuna Chiyonoyama). He dropped out of high school and joined Kokonoe stable in November 1975. He initially wrestled under his surname before switching to "Fujinosato" (富士の里) in May 1978. He was promoted to makushita in the following July 1978 tournament, but struggled to breakthrough into juryo due to injuries and illnesses. He won his first makushita yusho in January 1981, but could not capitalize on a juryo promotion. He won his second makushita yusho in November 1983 and followed with two more winning records which earned him a juryo promotion for the May 1984 tournament. He struggled in his juryo debut and lost his first eight matches. He went on to finish with a 4-11 and was demoted back down to makushita in July 1984. This proved to be his only tournament as a sekitori. He announced his retirement after the March 1986 tournament.

Fighting Style[]

Fujinosato was a yotsu-sumo wrestler who prefers grappling to pushing and thrusting techniques. He favored a hidari-yotsu (right hand outside, left hand inside) position when gripping his opponent's mawashi (belt). His most common kimarite was yorikiri, or force out. He was also fond of employing uwatenage, or overarm throw.
