Higashi started sumo wrestling during his first year at Kawachi Elementary School, but stopped sumo wrestling in his third year and played baseball from his fourth year to sixth year. He then attended Kumamoto Shiritsu Kawachi Junior High School where he was a member of the judo club. He went on to attend Buntoku Gakuen Gymnasium and was a member of the school's strong sumo club. He continued his sumo career at Meiji University where he made top 32 at the Kokutai Sumo Tournament.[1]

After graduating university in 2020, Higashi got a job with Toppan, a printing company, and was planning to work at a factory in Saitama prefecture while simultaneously continuing his sumo career at the corporate level. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic he could not participate in training or tournaments so he decided to go pro instead.[2]

Career[]

Early Career[]

Higashi joined Fujishima stable because a coach at the stable, Yamawake Oyakata (former maegashira Buyuzan) is also an alumnus of Meiji University. He made his March 2021 under the shikona "Fujiseiun" (藤青雲).[2] In his first tournament, he finished with a perfect 7-0 record and defeated stablemate Suguro in a playoff to claim the jonokuchi yusho. In the following July 2021 tournament, he finished with another perfect 7-0 record, but missed out on the jonidan yusho after losing to Osanai in the playoff. He followed with his third consecutive 7-0 record to claim the sandanme yusho and was promoted to makushita in November 2021.[3]

In his first match in makushita, Fujiseiun lost to Kamito and ended his 21 consecutive win streak since entry into sumo. He also finished the tournament with a 3-4 record which was also his first career make-koshi. He reached a career-best makushita 2 rank in November 2022, but finished with a 3-4 record. In the March 2023 tournament, Fujiseiun got a 4-3 record in his previous highest rank of Makushita 2, which saw him promoted to Juryo for the May 2023 tournament.[3]

Juryo Career[]

Fujiseiun became the first Meiji University graduate to reach the elite sekitori ranks since Buyuzan in May 2000.[4] He finished with a solid 9-6 record in his juryo debut. He was promoted to the rank of juryo 6 for the July 2023 tournament, however, he had to miss the tournament due to an injury to his left knee's anterior cruciate ligament.[5]

Fujiseiun pulled out of the two following tournaments as well, placing him in the fourth division of sandanme, where he had not competed in since September 2021. Nevertheless, he posted a perfect 7-0 record in January 2024, winning the sandanme championship. He continued to climb back up the lower divisions and in May 2024, at the rank of makushita 11, he posted a perfect 7-0 record, defeating makushita tsukedashi debutant Kusano for the makushita yusho. As a result, he was re-promoted to juryo for the July 2024 tournament.[3]
