Fukuryudake Shigeo - 福龍岳 茂生 (born May 8, 1959) is a former Japanese professional sumo wrestler from Kaho, Fukuoka. He made his debut in March 1975 and wrestled for Dewanoumi stable. He reached the juryo division in November 1987. His highest rank was juryo 12 and he retired in September 1992.
Early Life[]
Nakao belonged in the volleyball club in junior high school. When he was nearing junior high school graduation, he was recommended to join professional sumo. After graduating junior high school he joined Dewanoumi stable.
Career[]
Nakao made his professional debut in March 1975. He wrestled under many different shikona, or ring names, including Fukumidori, Fukuryuyama, and Fukuryudake. He also reverted back to his surname on multiple occasions. He was promoted to sandanme in November 1976 and makushita in July 1978. After 12 years in the lower divisions, Fukuryudake won the makushita yusho with a perfect 7-0 record at the rank of makushita 14. As a result he was promoted to juryo in the following November 1987 tournament. In his lone sekitori tournament, Fukuryudake finished with a 5-10 record and was demoted back down to makushita.

By his later career, Fukuryudake fell down to sandanme due to injuries. He announced his retirement after the September 1992 tournament and has remained in the Japan Sumo Association as a sewanin, or assistant.
Fighting Style[]
Fukuryudake was a yotsu-sumo wrestler who prefers grappling to pushing and thrusting techniques. He favored a migi-yotsu (left hand outside, right hand inside) position when gripping his opponent's mawashi (belt). His most common kimarite was yorikiri, or force out.
