Genjiyama Kichidayu - 源氏山 吉太夫 (born 1786 - April 8, 1844) was a Japanese professional sumo wrestler from Tendo, Yamagata. He made his debut in November 1807 and wrestled for Hidenoyama stable. He reached the makuuchi division in November 1814. His highest rank was ozeki and he retired in March 1828.

Career[]

Born in Tendo, Yamagata, Hanroku Seno joined Hidenoyama stable and made his professional debut in November 1807 under the shikona "Nawabari Tsunaemon" (縄張 綱右エ門). He reached makuuchi in November 1814 and was promoted to komusubi in February 1818. Upon promotion to sekiwake in March 1819 he was given the shikona "Genjiyama Kichidayu" (源氏山 吉太夫). He remained in san'yaku for seven years before promotion to ozeki in October 1825. After an inauspicious ozeki debut, he changed his shikona to "Genjiyama Tsunagoro" in January 1826, but was still demoted from ozeki after only two tournaments. He retired shortly after in March 1828.

Retirement from Sumo[]

After retiring, he remained in the sumo world and inherited Hidenoyama stable. He died on April 8, 1844, at the age of 58.
