Genjiyama Yuzo - 源氏山 祐藏 (born January 18, 1914 - date of death unknown) was a Japanese professional sumo wrestler from Hayato, Kagoshima. He made his debut in May 1929 and wrestled for Izutsu stable. He reached the makuuchi division in May 1938. His highest rank was maegashira 15 and he retired in January 1941.

Career[]

Early Career[]

Kariya joined Asakayama stable which was operated by the 30th Yokozuna Nishinoumi III who came from the same town as Kariya. He made his professional debut in May 1929 under the shikona "Genjiyama" (源氏山) which was the old shikona of his stablemaster. However, in July 1933, while in makushita, his stable master passed away and he transferred to Izutsu stable. He was promoted to juryo in January 1935 and makuuchi in May 1938.

Makuuchi Career[]

In his top division debut, Genjiyama finished with a poor 1-12 record and was demoted back down to juryo. He returned back to makuuchi in January 1940, but could only finish with a 5-10 record. This proved to be his last makuuchi appearance and he retired in January 1940.

Retirement from Sumo[]

After retiring, he remained in sumo as an elder of the Japan Sumo Association, working as a coach at Izutsu stable under the name Asakayama Oyakata. However, he left the sumo world all together in May 1942. After that, he spent a period of time in Manchuria (Northeastern China).
