Career[]

Born in Yokohama's Minami Ward, Kaneko joined Isenoumi stable and made his professional debut in January 1952 at the age of 14. Initially wrestling under his surname, he was promoted to sandanme in Janaury 1954 and makushita in May 1955. He changed his shikona to "Kanekoyama" (金子山) in 1956 before changing it to "Kawashimine" (柏嶺) two tournaments later. He changed his shikona yet again to "Hananoumi" (濱ノ海) in 1959 and was promoted to juryo in July 1960. He was ranked in juryo for seven straight tournaments and wrestled under two other ring names: "Isenoyama" (伊勢ノ山) and "Sagaminada" (相模洋). He retired from sumo in May 1962.

Fighting Style[]

Hamanoumi was a yotsu-sumo wrestler who prefers grappling to pushing and thrusting techniques. He favored a hidari-yotsu (right hand outside, left hand inside) position when gripping his opponent's mawashi(belt). His most common kimarite was yorikiri, or force out.
