Hatogasaki Shota - 波戸ヶ崎 昇太 (born January 6, 1987) is a former Japanese professional sumo wrestler from Karatsu, Saga. He made his debut in March 2005 and wrestled for Isenoumi stable. His highest rank was makushita 33 and he retired in January 2013.

Early Life[]

Yamashita was born on January 6, 1987, in Karatsu, Saga. After graduating from Saga Prefectural Taku Senior High School, he joined Isenoumi stable.

Career[]

He made his debut in March 2005 and was given the shikona "Araumi" (荒海). He was promoted to sandanme in November 2005 and makushita in March 2007. He reached a career-best rank of makushita 33 in May 2010 but finished with a winless 0-7 record in this tournament. In July 2012 he was given the new shikona "Hatogasaki" (波戸ヶ崎) which is derived from a sekiwake from Osaka Sumo's Edagawa stable. The sekiwake also came from Karatsu, Saga, and was active from 1773-1779. After the shikona change, Hatogasaki continued to produce mediocre records and he retired from sumo in January 2013.

Hatogasaki was proficient in both yotsu-sumo (grappling) and oshi-sumo (pushing and thrusting) techniques. His most often used winning kimarite was uwatenage (overarm throw), followed by oshidashi (push out).
