Career[]

Early Career[]

After graduating from junior high school, Kikushima joined Hanakago stable and made his professional debut in March 1980. He initially wrestled under his surname before switching to "Ranzan" (鸞山) in January 1981. He changed his shikona to "Hanahikari" (花光). He was promoted to sandanme in July 1982 and makushita in March 1984. In December 1985, his Hanakago stable closed, so he transferred to Hanaregoma stable where he changed his shikona to "Hidenohana" (秀ノ花) shortly after in March 1986. After six consecutive winning records, he was promoted to juryo in may 1988.

Juryo Career[]

He won the juryo division yusho or championship in his debut tournament in the division (the first wrestler to achieve this since Kotochitose in 1979), but then never won another bout as a sekitori, as he suffered a left knee medial collateral ligament injury in training with members of the Nihon University sumo club (including later top division wrestler Daishoyama) and was forced to withdraw from the next tournament after ten straight losses. He had been ineligible for the kosho seido rank protection as the injury had not taken place in a tournament, and he was demoted to makushita. He never managed to return to juryo and retired from active competition in March 1994. He performed the yumitori-shiki bow-twirling ceremony from November 1990 to July 1991.

Fighting Style[]

Hidenohana was a yotsu-sumo wrestler who prefers grappling to pushing and thrusting techniques. He favored a migi-yotsu (left hand outside, right hand inside) position when gripping his opponent's mawashi (belt). His most common kimarite were yorikiri (force out), hatakikomi (slap down), and shitatenage (underarm throw).
