Hikarumusashi Eru - 光武蔵 瑛琉 (born November 7, 2005) is an American professional sumo wrestler from Makaha, Oahu, Hawaii. He made his debut in November 2024 and currently wrestles for Musashigawa stable. His highest rank as of 2025 is jonidan 62.

Early Life[]

Daniel Ailua was born on November 7, 2005, in Oahu, Hawaii. His mother, Lua, is the sister of Yokozuna Musashimaru, and his older brother, Fiamulu, was also a sumo wrestler. He attended Waianae High School, where he played defensive lineman on the school's American football team. Having admired sumo from an early age, he decided to follow in his brother's footsteps and traveled to Japan in August 2023 to join his uncle's Musashigawa stable.[1]

Career[]

He made his professional debut in November 2024 and was given the shikona "Hikarumusashi" (光武蔵). The "Hikaru" (光) comes from his stablemaster's given name "Koyo" (光洋) as it shares the same character and the "Musashi" (光武) is from his stablemaster's shikona.[2] He made his debut alongside Tenrosei, the nephew of Asashoryu, and they received significant media attention as both were nephews of Yokozuna.[3] In addition, he is the first American sumo wrestler since his brother's retirement in September 2019.

Personal Life[]

  • Hikarumusashi is the nephew of Yokozuna Musashimaru, as his mother is Musashimaru's sister. His older brother, Fiamalu, was also a sumo wrestler who wrestled under the shikona Musashikuni.[1]
  • Hikarumusashi is of Tongan and Samoan descent.[4]

Hikarumusashi is an oshi-sumo wrestler who prefers pushing and thrusting techniques to fighting on the mawashi. His most common kimarite used is a straightforward oshidashi, or push out.[5]
