Hitachiumi Mitsuhisa - 常陸海 光房 (born January 19, 1916 - date of death unknown) was a Japanese professional sumo wrestler from Yawara, Ibaraki. He made his debut in May 1936 and last wrestled for Tokitsukaze stable. He reached the makuuchi division in May 1943. His highest rank was maegashira 12 and he retired in November 1947.
Career[]
Early Career[]
Iizuka joined Arashio stable and made his professional debut in May 1936 under the shikona "Hitachiumi" (常陸海). He was promoted to sandanme in January 1938 and makushita in January 1939. After two years in makushita, he reached juryo in May 1941. In April 1943, Asashio stable closed and he transferred to Futabayama Dojo (later renamed Tokitsukaze stable). He was promoted to makuuchi in a month later in May 1943.
Makuuchi Career[]
After his top division debut, Hitachiiumi was drafted for military service and he participated in amateur sumo wrestling during his time with the navy. He returned to sumo in November 1945, however, he was demoted back down to juryo in November 1946. He returned to makuuchi in June 1947 but retired from sumo in November 1947.
Fighting Style[]
Hitachiiumi was a yotsu-sumo wrestler who prefers grappling to pushing and thrusting techniques. He regularly employed dashinage (pulling throw) and utchari (backward pivot throw).
