Inabamaru Hiroki - 稲葉丸 弘貴 (born July 14, 1987) is a former Japanese professional sumo wrestler from Gifu City, Gifu. He made his debut in March 2010 and wrestled for Kise stable. His highest rank was makushita 40 and he retired in March 2016.

Early Life[]

Hiroki Tanahashi was born on July 14, 1987, in Gifu City, Gifu. He began sumo wrestling during his first year of elementary school. Aside from sumo, Tanahashi also participated in swimming and baseball. Tanahashi specifically excelled in swimming and was selected by Gifu prefecture to train for future tournaments.

After high school, he enrolled at Asahi University where he was a member of the school's sumo club. During his time at Asahi, he was part of the team which reached the top 8 at the Intercollegiate Tournament. However, he later left the sumo club as he struggled with the environment. At one point he aspired to become a prison officer, but when Tokushinho, a senior from his university, reached juryo, Tanahashi became inspired to try out professional sumo. Despite parental opposition, he joined Kise stable.

Career[]

Tanahashi made his professional debut in March 2010 and was promoted to sandanme by November 2010. He struggled with injuries for majority of his career and was already had to miss a total of five tournaments after less than four years in sumo. In September 2014, he was given the shikona "Inabamaru" (稲葉丸) and was promoted to makushita in May 2015. He was only ranked in makushita for four tournaments, reaching as high as makushita 40 in September 2015, and he retired in March 2016.

Inabamaru was an oshi-sumo wrestler who prefers pushing and thrusting techniques to fighting on the mawashi. His most common kimarite used was a straightforward oshidashi, or push out.
