Inami Koki - 伊波 興輝 (born August 22, 2000) is a Japanese professional sumo wrestler from Amami, Kagoshima. He made his debut in January 2024 and currently wrestles for Onoe stable. His highest rank as of 2025 is makushita 6.

Early Life[]

Koki Inami was born on August 22, 2000, in Amami, a city on Amami Oshima, one of the Ryukyu Islands. He started sumo wrestling during his first year at Kagoshima Commercial High School, and in just two and a half years, Inami already reached the top 16 at the National High School Sumo Championships.[1] After high school, Inami moved to Tokyo to attend Nihon University and continue his amateur sumo career. After finishing university, Inami was employed at the Kagoshima Prefecture Sports Association where he worked as a sumo instructor. After participating in the Kagoshima National Sports Festival, Inami opted to join professional sumo and entered Onoe stable.[1]

He made his professional debut in January 2024 and finished with a strong 6-1 record in his first official tournament in March. In the May 2024 tournament, Inami was aiming for the jonidan yusho and won his first six matches before losing his final match to Kyokukaiyu. Nevertheless, he followed up by claiming the sandanme yusho in July 2024 with a perfect 7-0 record and was promoted to makushita for the September 2024 tournament.[2]

Inami is proficient in both yotsu-sumo (grappling) and oshi-sumo (pushing and thrusting) techniques. His most common kimarite used are uwatenage (overarm throw), hatakikomi (slap down), oshidashi (push out), and yorikiri (force out).[3]
