After graduating high school, he enrolled at Kyushu Institute of Information Sciences and achieved strong results on the national level, despite wrestling for a small school.[1] After graduating from university, he opted to go pro and joined Tamanoi stable, despite earning interest from yokozuna Hakuho and Miyagino stable.[2]
