Kaitoma Aron

Kaitoma Aron - 魁當真 亜龍 (born May 11, 2001) is a former Filipino-Japanese professional sumo wrestler from Yokohama, Kanagawa. He made his debut in March 2017 and wrestled for Asakayama stable. His highest rank was jonidan 2 and he retired in May 2025.

Early Life[]

Mark Aaron Justin Toma was born on May 11, 2001, in the Philippines[1] and he grew up in Quezon City's Kamuning neighborhood as well as the Municipality of Santa Rosa in Nueva Ecija province.[2] His mother is of Filipino descent and his father is of Japanese, Brazilian, and Filipino descent.[3] He later moved to Japan and settled in Yokohama's Hodogaya Ward. He joined Asakayama stable in 2017.[3]

Career[]

He made his professional debut in March 2017 and was given the shikona "Kaitoma" (魁當真). He used Yokohama as his official birthplace when joining sumo so he is not counted as a foreign sumo wrestler. In January 2019, Kaitoma finished with a strong 6-1 record and was promoted to a career-best jonidan 2 for the March 2019 tournament.[4]

Retirement from Sumo[]

Kaitoma retired from professional sumo after the May 2025 tournament, citing knee and hip related injuries. Instead of a traditional hair-cutting ceremony at his stable, he decided to have a buzzcut done by stablemate Kaiseijo. After retirement, he plans to work as an interpreter due to his ability to speak Tagalog and English.[5]
