Kirameki Takayoshi - 煌 貴圭 (born July 29, 2001) is a former Japanese-Bolivian professional sumo wrestler from Nagoya, Aichi. He made his debut in January 2020 and wrestled for Asahiyama stable. His highest rank was sandanme 70 and he retired in March 2021.
Early Life[]
Daniel Velez Garcia was born on July 29, 2001, in Cochabamba, Bolivia. He moved to Nagoya at the age of six due to his parent's work. Garcia attended Inazawa Higashi Senior High School where he was a nationally ranked Greco-Roman wrestler in the 125 kg weight class.[1] After high school, he initially wanted to attend college, however, due to financial difficulties, he opted to join professional sumo after he was persuaded by Asahiyama Oyakata (former sekiwake Kotonishiki).[2]
Career[]
Garcia joined Asahiyama stable and made his professional debut in January 2020. He used Nagoya, Aichi, as his official birthplace and subsequently did not count as a foreigner. He was given the one kanji shikona, or ring name, "Kirameki" (煌) due to his facial resemblance to the 64th Yokozuna Akebono.[1] Having no sumo experience prior to his professional debut, Kirameki posted consistent winning-records and steadily climbed up the banzuke. After five consecutive winning records he was promoted to the rank of sandanme 70, however, he finished the tournament with his first losing record.[3]
Retirement from Sumo[]
Kirameki suddenly announced his retirement after the March 2021 tournament. His retirement coincided with a controversy in his stable where the Okami-san (stablemaster's wife) was allegedly abusing her power.[4] At the time of his retirement, he was already the highest ranked wrestler at his stable.[5]
Fighting Style[]

Kirameki defeats Hagane by oshidashi (push out)
Kirameki was a tsuki/oshi specialist, who prefers pushing and thrusting at his opponents rather than fighting on the mawashi or belt. His most common winning kimarite or technique was oshidashi or a straightforward push out.[6]
