Kitaazuma Kiyoshi - 北東 清 (born June 19, 1973) is a former Brazilian professional sumo wrestler from Sao Paulo. He made his debut in September 1991 and wrestled for Tamanoi stable. His highest rank was makushita 18 and he retired in November 1998.
Career[]
Japanese-Brazilian Tetsuya Takeda joined Tamanoi stable in September 1991 alongside three other Brazilian sumo wrestlers. He was given the shikona "Kitaazuma" (北東) and in his first professional tournament he took the jonokuchi yusho after winning a six-man playoff which included Brazilian stablemates Kuniazuma and Wakaazuma. After 3 tournaments in the jonidan division he was promoted to sandanme in July 1992. He was promoted to the makushita division in May 1994 and was promoted to a career-best makushita 18 after only 3 tournaments in makushita. In his later career he bounced between the sandanme and makushita division. His retirement was announced after the 1998 tournament.
Fighting Style[]
Kitaazuma is a yotsu-sumo wrestler who prefers grappling to pushing and thrusting techniques. He won over half of his bouts with a straightforward yorikiri, or force out. He was also fond of employing yoritaoshi, or frontal crush out.
