Kitakasuga Ikko - 北春日 一光 (born September 14, 1981) is a former Mongolian professional sumo wrestler from Ulaanbaatar. He made his debut in September 1999 and wrestled for Kasugayama stable. His highest rank was sandanme 18 and he retired in March 2005.

Career[]

Munkhbat Tsolmonbayar of Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, joined Kasugayama stable in September 1999. He was given the shikona "Kitakasuga" (北春日). He initially struggled and could not make it past the jonidan division. It was not until May 2002, when he reached the sandanme division. He gradually rose the ranks of sandanme, but an injury suffered in November 2002 sent him back to jonidan. He was promoted back to sandanme in July 2003. He remained there for the rest of his later career.

Retirement from Sumo[]

In March 2005, he was promoted to a career-best sandanme 18, but his retirement was suddenly announced before the tournament. Upon retirement from sumo, he returned back to Mongolia and currently works as a coach and representative of the Mongolian Youth Sumo Federation. According to his Facebook account, he still keeps in contact with many active Mongolian sumo wrestlers.

Fighting Style[]

Kitakasuga was a yotsu-sumo wrestler who prefers grappling to pushing and thrusting techniques. He won most of his bouts with a straightforward yorikiri, or force out.
