Kiyononada Fumiyuki - 清乃洋 文幸 (born July 24, 1964) is a former Japanese professional sumo wrestler from Hachinohe, Aomori. He made his debut in March 1980 and wrestled for Isegahama stable. He reached the juryo division in March 1988. His highest rank was juryo 13 and he retired in November 1988.
Career[]
Sakamoto was recommended to enter into professional sumo by an acquaintance who was a member of the Japan Self-Defense Forces. He joined Isegahama stable and made his professional debut in March 1980. He initially wrestled under his surname before switching to "Kiyononada" (清乃洋) in July 1980. He was promoted to sandanme in March 1982 and makushita in March 1984. In July 1986, he was in the run for the makushita yusho, but lost his final match against future sekiwake Tochinowaka to finish with a 6-1 record. In Janaury 1988, while at his highest rank at the time of Makushita 6, he finished with a solid 6-1 record and was promoted to juryo in the following March 1988 tournament.
In his juryo debut, Kiyononada finished with a 6-9 record and was demoted back down to makushita. This proved to be his only tournament as a sekitori and he announced his retirement after the November 1988 tournament at the young age of 24.
Fighting Style[]
Kiyononada was a yotsu-sumo wrestler who prefers grappling to pushing and thrusting techniques. He favored a hidari-yotsu (right hand outside, left hand inside) position when gripping his opponent's mawashi (belt). His most common kimarite was yorikiri, or force out.
