Koganefuji Takeshi - 小金富士 岳士 (born October 7, 1961) is a former Japanese professional sumo wrestler from Koganei, Tokyo. He made his debut in March 1977 and wrestled for Hanaregoma stable. His highest rank was makushita 1 and he retired in January 1990.
Career[]
Arase joined Hanakago stable and made his professional debut in March 1977 under the shikona "Koganefuji" (小金富士). He was promoted to sandanme in January 1979 and makushita in September 1981. He was given the new shikona "Hanamusashi" (花武蔵) in May 1982, however, he reverted back to Koganefuji in March 1986.
In 1985, Hanakago stable closed down so he transferred to the affiliated Hanaregoma stable. He won the sandanme yusho in November 1986 with a perfect 7-0 record. In March 1988, while ranked at makushita 8, he was aiming for the makushita yusho which would have guaranteed him a promotion to juryo. He won his first six matches but missed out on the championship after losing his final match to the American Takamikuni. He was promoted to the rank of makushita 2 in the following May 1988 tournament, but missed out on a juryo promotion after losing an exchange bout to juryo-ranked Dewanokuni on the 12th day to finish with a losing 3-4 record.
In September 1988, while ranked at makushita 2, Koganefuji finished with a 4-3 record and even defeated juryo-ranked Takanomine in his final match. However, due to unlucky circumstances, he missed out on a promotion to juryo and was promoted to makushita 1 instead for the November 1988 tournament. He finished with a 2-5 record in this tournament and never managed to capitalize on a juryo promotion.
Retirement from Sumo[]
