Kurohimeyama Toranosuke - 黒姫山 虎之介 (born January 24, 2002) is a Japanese professional sumo wrestler from Itoigawa, Niigata. He made his debut in May 2018 and currently wrestles for Sakaigawa stable. His highest rank as of 2025 is makushita 6.
Early Life[]
Toranosuke Tanaka was born on January 24, 2002, in Sumida, Tokyo. His father was former makushita wrestler Haguronada and his grandfather was former sekiwake Kurohimeyama.[1] Coming from a sumo wrestling family, Tanaka began sumo wrestling from an early age. He attended Itoigawa City Nou Junior High School in Niigata Prefecture which is his grandfather's hometown. In his third year, he won the individual open-weight division at the National Junior High School Sumo Championships.[2] After graduating from junior high school, he enrolled at Niigata Prefectural Kaiyo High School which is known for its strong sumo program. Shortly after, he suffered a retinal detachment and during his time in the hospital, Tanaka decided to drop out and pursue a career in professional sumo. He subsequently joined Sakaigawa stable because he wanted the challenge of joining a stable with no connection to his grandfather.[2]
Career[]
He made his professional debut in May 2018 and was given the shikona "Tanakayama" (田中山) which had also been used by his father in his early career. He was promoted to makushita in November 2019 at just the age of 17, and at the time he had not posted a single losing record, however, he finished with a 3-4 record in his makushita debut. In July 2023, he inherited his grandfather's shikona "Kurohimeyama" (黒姫山).[3]
Family[]
- Kurohimeyama's father is former makushita wrestler Haguronada (born Daisuke Tanaka) who wrestled from 1993 to 2002 and his uncle is former jonidan wrestler Hagurokuni (born Kenta Tanaka) who wrestled from 1996 to 2004.[1] Both Haguronada and Hagurokuni belonged to Takekuma stable which was operated by his grandfather, the original Kurohimeyama. His cousin Kaito Fujihara joined Tokitsukaze stable in March 2023.[1]
Fighting Style[]

Kurohimeyama defeats Hinataryu by oshidashi (push out)
Kurohimeyama is an oshi-sumo wrestler who prefers pushing and thrusting techniques to fighting on the mawashi. His most common kimarite used is a straightforward oshidashi, or push out.[4]
