Kusunoumi Masaharu - 楠ノ海 正治 (born March 13, 1944) is a former Japanese professional sumo wrestler from Saga City, Saga Prefecture. He made his debut in July 1959 and last wrestled for Nishonoseki stable. He reached the juryo division in May 1965. His highest rank was juryo 16 and he retired in May 1966.
Career[]
Born in Saga, Nakamura joined Nishonoseki stable and made his professional debut in July 1959. He was given the shikona "Kusunoumi" (楠ノ海). He was promoted to sandanme in November 1960 and makushita in November 1961. In march 1965, he produced a 5-2 record at the ran of makushita 3 and was promoted to juryo in May 1965. However, he sprained his left knee prior to his juryo debut and had to sit out of the tournament which resulted in an immediate demotion back down to makushita. He never managed to return to juryo and thus never wrestled a match as a sekitori. He retired from sumo in May 1966.
Fighting Style[]
Kusunoumi was a yotsu-sumo wrestler who prefers grappling to pushing and thrusting techniques. He favored a migi-yotsu (left hand outside, right hand inside) position when gripping his opponent's mawashi (belt). His favorite kimarite was uwatenage, or overarm throw.
