Kyokukaiyu Ren - 旭海雄 蓮 (born April 4, 2000) is a Mongolian professional sumo wrestler from Bayankhongor. He made his debut in September 2023 and currently wrestles for Oshima stable. His highest rank as of 2025 is makushita 5.
Early Life[]
Shagdarsuren Dalaibaatar was born on April 4, 2000, in Bayankhongor, Mongolia. He moved to Japan in the spring of 2016 to practice sumo and attended Asahigaoka High School in Kanagawa prefecture. During his second year of high school, he placed third at the National High School Sumo Selection Tournament and in his third year, he placed third at the Kanto Tournament's open weight division.[1]
After graduating from high school, Dalaibaatar enrolled at Nippon Sport Science University to continue his amateur sumo career. During his first year, he placed third at the East Japan Rookie Tournament. In his second year, he placed third at the +135 kg division at the East Japan Collegiate Weight-Class Tournament and reached the top 8 at the All Japan Sumo Championship. He made it to the top 16 at the National Student Sumo Championship during his fourth year. After graduating, he joined Oshima Stable.[1]
Career[]
He made his professional debut in September 2023 and was given the shikona "Kyokukaiyu" (旭海雄). In his first official tournament in January 2024, he finished with a strong 6-1 record with his only loss coming from Anhibiki. In the following March tournament, he was ranked in the jonidan division and posted a solid 5-2 record, and was promoted to the sandanme division for the May 2024 tournament. In May 2024, he won all seven of his bouts and defeated fellow Mongolian Sadanohikari in a playoff to claim the sandanme yusho. He was promoted to makushita for the following July 2024 tournament where he finished with a strong 6-1 record.[2]

- Kyokukaiyu is the only Mongolian sumo wrestler from Bayankhongor Province.[2]

Kyokukaiyu is a yotsu-sumo wrestler who prefers grappling to pushing and thrusting techniques. He won most of his bouts with a straightforward yorikiri, or force out.[4]
