Sumowrestling Wiki

Maedahana Eisuke - 前田花 英介 (born October 6, 1940) is a former Japanese professional sumo wrestler from Yamada, Iwate. He made his debut in September 1956 and last wrestled for Takasago stable. He reached the juryo division in September 1964. His highest rank was juryo 4 and he retired in September 1968.

Career[]

He joined Takasago stable and made his professional debut in September 1956. He initially wrestled under many different shikona, or ring names, before settling with "Maedahana" (前田花) in 1960. In July 1964, he posted a 6-1 record at the rank of makushita 5 and was promoted to juryo in September 1964. His first juryo run only lasted four tournaments and he was demoted back down to makushita in May 1965. He returned to juryo in January 1968 after three years in the unsalaried ranks. In July 1968 while ranked at his highest rank of juryo 4, he sprained his right knee and had to pull out of the tournament. He announced his retirement after the following September 1968 tournament.

Retirement from Sumo[]

After suffering a right knee injury he announced his retirement after the September 1968 tournament to avoid an inevitable demotion back down to makushita. After retiring, he ran a sumo-themed restaurant called "Maedahana" (前田花) in Gifu.

Fighting Style[]

Maedahana was a yotsu-sumo wrestler who prefers grappling to pushing and thrusting techniques. He favored a hidari-yotsu (right hand outside, left hand inside) position when gripping his opponent's mawashi (belt). His most common kimarite was yorikiri, or force out.
