
Meiji University campus
Meiji University (明治大学, Meiji Daigaku) is a private research university in Chiyoda City, the heart of Tokyo, Japan. Established in 1881 as Meiji Law School by three Meiji-era lawyers, it is one of the oldest and most prestigious universities in Japan. It has highly selective admissions, with an acceptance rate averaging around 15%. It is known to be Japan's most popular university with applications exceeding 100,000 annually.
The University's sumo club has produced a couple professional sumo wrestlers, with ozeki Miyabiyama being their most successful alumnus.
