Nagamura Akihiro - 長村 晃宏 (born June 30, 2004) is a Japanese professional sumo wrestler from Nobeoka, Miyazaki. He made his debut in January 2023 and currently wrestles for Kise stable. His highest rank as of 2025 is makushita 9.
Early Life[]
Akihiro Nagamura was born on June 30, 2004, in Nobeoka, Miyazaki. He began sumo wrestling at a Kitakata Sumo Club during his sixth year at Nobeoka Minami Elementary School. He continued sumo wrestling at Nobeoka Sumo Dojo and reached the top 8 in the National Junior High School Sumo Tournament during his second year at Nobeokashi Ritsuminami Junior High School.[1]
After junior high school, Nagamura moved to Shizuoka Prefecture to attend Hiryu High School, which was known for its strong sumo club. In his second year of high school, Nagamura and his school won the team competition at the National High School Sumo Tournament. During his third year, he reached the top 8 at the national high school championships and achieved 3rd place with his team at the national athletic meet team competition. After graduating high school, Nagamura opted to go professional and joined Kise stable.[2]
Career[]
Nagamura made his debut in January 2023 alongside high school teammate Satorufuji. In his first professional tournament in March 2023, Nagamura finished with a less than ideal 4-3 record, with his losses coming from Wakaikari, Tokinishiki, and Satorufuji. He rebounded in the following May 2023 tournament by finishing with a 6-1 record and was promoted to sandanme for the July 2023 tournament where he posted another 6-1 record. Nagamura eventually reached makushita in January 2024, but finished with a 3-4 record in his makushita debut and was relegated back down to sandanme for March 2024. In March 2024, Nagamura won all seven of his matches to claim the sandanme yusho. He was promoted to a career-best makushita 9 for the following May 2024 tournament.[3]

Nagamura is an oshi-sumo wrestler who prefers pushing and thrusting techniques to fighting on the mawashi. His most common kimarite used are oshidashi (push out) and tsukidashi (thrust out).[4]
