Career[]

Early Career[]

Oikawa made his professional debut in January 1952, joining Onoe stable before shortly transferring to Takasago stable in April 1952. He was promoted to sandanme in March 1953 and makushita in January 1955. After seven consecutive winning records in makushita, he was promoted to juryo in September 1956.

Juryo Career[]

In his first tournament as a sekitori, Oikawa finished with an 8-7 record. He followed with a 13-2 record and won his first juryo yusho. In May 1957 he won his second juryo yusho with another 13-2 record at the rank of juryo 3 and was promoted to makuuchi in September 1957.

Makuuchi Career[]

Oikawa was ranked in the top division for 21 tournaments, however, his progress was hindered by a right knee injury and he only managed to reach the rank of maegashira 10. He was demoted back down to juryo in March 1961 and after falling down to makushita in May 1962, he retired from sumo.

Retirement from Sumo[]

After retiring, he ran a Chinese restaurant in Taito, Tokyo.

Fighting Style[]

Oikawa was a yotsu-sumo wrestler who prefers grappling to pushing and thrusting techniques. He favored a hidari-yotsu (right hand outside, left hand inside) position when gripping his opponent's mawashi (belt). His most common kimarite was yorikiri, or force out.
