Okaryu Kazuma - 大花竜 勝磨 (born October 9, 2001) is a Japanese professional sumo wrestler from Towada, Aomori. He made his debut in May 2024 and currently wrestles for Tatsunami stable. His highest rank as of 2025 is makushita 11.

Early Life[]

Kazuma Yamazaki was born on October 9, 2001, in Towada, Aomori. He attended Sanbongi Agricultural High School where he was a member of the school's sumo club. In his first year of high school, Yamazaki placed third in the National Selection Hirosaki Tournament. In his second year, he reached the top 8 in the National Selection Towada Tournament and the National Sports Festival. In his third year, he placed third in the All Japan Weight Class Junior Heavyweight Division (over 100 kg) and he reached the top 8 in the National Selection Towada Tournament.[1]

After graduating high school, he enrolled at Kinki University to continue his amateur sumo career. During his second year at Kinki, Yamazaki won the West Japan Student Sumo Championships. During his third year, he placed in the top 8 at the All Japan Sumo Championships. In his fourth year, he reached the top 16 in the National Sports Festival, and was part of the winning team in the All Japan Student Championships where he served as the vice captain. After graduating university, Yamazaki opted to go professional and joined Tatsunami stable.[1]

Career[]

He made his professional debut in May 2024 under the shikona "Okaryu" (大花竜). Due to his amateur accomplishments he was granted special dispensation, which allowed him to make his debut at the bottom of the sandanme division. In his first tournament, he finished with a 6-1 record, with his only loss coming from Kyokukaiyu. He followed with 5-2 records in the July and September tournaments and was promoted to makushita in November 2024.[2]

Okaryu is a yotsu-sumo wrestler who prefers grappling to pushing and thrusting techniques. He won most of his bouts with a straightforward yorikiri, or force out.[3]
