Early Life[]
Shinya Matsuda was born on August 26, 1986, in Nishinomiya, Hyogo. He attended Tottori Johoku High School where he was a member of the school's strong sumo club. After graduating from high school, he was recruited into Otake stable by Otake Oyakata (former sekiwake Takatoriki).
Career[]
He made his professional debut in March 2005 and was given the shikona "Omatsuda" (大松田). Already weighing 198 kg (437 lb), he was the second heaviest of the 70 new recruits, only behind Maeta who weighed 204 kg (450 lb). He got off to a solid start, finishing with four consecutive winning records and was promoted to sandanme in November 2005. He reached a career-best sandanme 15 in September 2007, but finished with a poor 1-6 record. He retired from sumo in September 2008 after sitting out of the previous three tournaments.
