Onoshima Shinichiro - 大ノ島 伸一郎 (born April 16, 1983) is a former Japanese professional sumo wrestler from Chichibu, Saitama. He made his debut in March 2006 and wrestled for Musashigawa stable. His highest rank was sandanme 32 and he retired in May 2008.
Early Life[]
Shinichiro Oshima was born on April 16, 1983, in Chichibu, Saitama. He attended Daito Bunka University where he was a member of the school's sumo club. During his time in college, he did not win any major titles. After graduating, he joined Musashigawa stable alongside college teammate Mori.
Career[]
He made his professional debut in March 2006 and was given the shikona "Onoshima" (大ノ島) which is derived from his surname. He finished with a winning record in his first five tournaments and was promoted to sandanme in January 2007. Onoshima struggled to make it out of sandanme and his highest rank was sandanme 32 which he earned in January 2008. He retired from sumo in May 2008.
Fighting Style[]
Onoshima was a yotsu-sumo wrestler who prefers grappling to pushing and thrusting techniques. His most common kimarite was yorikiri (force out), followed by yoritaoshi (frontal crush out).
